OUR LEADERSHIP
GET TO KNOW THE PASTOR
Rev. Dr. Edward A. Mulraine proudly serves as the fourth pastor of the historic, trailblazing Unity Baptist Tabernacle Church in Mount Vernon, New York. Under his spiritual leadership, the church has experienced a season of dynamic transformation—marked by visionary growth, revitalization, and renewed purpose.
During his tenure, Unity has witnessed significant financial and discipleship development, alongside major renovations and modernizations of its facilities. The worship experience continues to evolve, grounded in passionate preaching, purposeful teaching, fervent prayer, and vibrant praise and worship. Beyond the sanctuary, the church remains deeply rooted in the community, keeping its doors open in both welcome and advocacy.
Rev. Dr. Mulraine was born in the Boogie Down Bronx, New York, where he was shaped by both the public schools and the public streets. Surpassing expectations, he excelled academically and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Manhattanville College, a Master of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary, a Master of Sacred Theology from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University, and a Doctor of Ministry from Duke University Divinity School. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from his alma mater, Manhattanville College, in recognition of his work in civil rights and social justice.
Answering the call to ministry at the age of 19, Dr. Mulraine went on to serve as an associate minister at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon under the leadership of Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson. There, he was deeply involved in social justice work and served on the board of the UJAMAA Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit housing and social services agency.
Dr. Mulraine's passion for justice and empowerment extends far beyond the pulpit. He is a community activist, educator, author, and entrepreneur. As the former president of the Williamsbridge NAACP in the Bronx and Vice President of the New York State Conference of NAACP Branches, he led voter registration drives, addressed educational and economic disparities, challenged police misconduct, and awarded scholarships to first-time and graduate-level students. His commitment to activism continues through the Unity and Community Development Corporation, a church-affiliated initiative focused on community advancement through partnerships with local pastors and elected officials.
A respected academic, Dr. Mulraine has taught courses at New York Theological Seminary and Manhattanville College, including Homiletics, Church History, Theology, and The Political Philosophy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
He is also a published author, having written three impactful books: The Gathering at Gethsemane (2009), Something to Battle With (2014), and The Ten Step M.A.N. (2018), which have collectively sold over 10,000 copies. These works are available through his publishing company, E.A. Raine Publishing (www.earainepublishing.com), founded in 2009. For Rev. Mulraine, protest and entrepreneurship are twin engines of change and empowerment.
Among his many honors, Dr. Mulraine has received several prestigious awards, including the highest activist award given by the New York State NAACP, recognizing his steadfast commitment to civil rights and social progress.
